About
The firm Zaha Hadid Architects has won the competition to design the Jinghe New City Culture & Art Centre in the Chinese city of Xi’An. Evoking the Jinghe River’s meander through the mountains and landscapes of Shaanxi province, the building will feature a muiltimedia library, a performing arts theatre seating 450, multipurpose halls, studios, and exhibition galleries. Courtyards, gardens, elevated walkways, and gently sloping ramps connect the different areas. Incorporating photovoltaic panels and a system for collecting rainwater, the project presents a sequence of flowing volumes where indoor and outdoor cultural and recreational spaces overlap.
