Loures Riverfront

About

This walking and cycling path is a major piece of infrastructure for sustainable mobility on the banks of the Loures, stretching across 100 hectares of ecologically valuable marshland that is a strategic point for migratory birds. Located in the Portuguese municipality of Loures, the route runs for approximately 6 kilometers with the aim of forging connections with the surrounding urban areas, strengthening territorial cohesion and accessibility. The project was drawn up with deep deference to the natural environment, including a wooden walkway raised high on stilts as a measure against possible flooding. Along the path are observation points, resting areas, shaded spaces, and fishing piers. Taking inspiration from the meandering waterways and drainage lines, this privileged axis avoids straight lines, opting for a winding route in harmony with the landscape. Such a configuration facilitates observation of diverse hábitats from many different angles.
