About
The visitor reception center for Colonia Clunia Salpicia is located in Peñalba de Castro (Burgos), next to a visitable Roman site which includes a theater, a forum, and thermal baths. A work of the practice of Antonio Tejedor and Mercedes Linares, the building is the result of a careful reading of the topography where the ancient city stood. The actual territory generated the project, reinforcing the attributes of the grounds through a construction that would prolong the hillside and blend with it. The green roof is a continuation of the terrain and becomes a viewpoint and walkable space. From a distance the complex is perceived as a geometric platform integrated into the natural slope. This landscaped plane improves bioclimatic performance and minimizes visual impact while sheltering the exhibition space inside. Access to the premises is an essential part of the experience. The visitor center is along the path that connects the existing buildings to the Roman theater carved into the rock, creating a gradual transition to the archaeological area. The chosen elevation facilitates the ascent via a gentle slope leading to the first major stop of the tour.
